Mission: General Conception
Client: COOPERATIVE ALTERNA – GROUPE SOS SOLIDARITES
Location: Marseille, France
Budget : 1 150 000€
Status: Delivered in 2019
Surface : 950 m2

The existent site comprises a traditional bastide converted in 2009 to create a Maison-Relais (medical homeless shelter). The LHSS, a contemporary wood-framed building dates from 2008 and is an extension of the historic building, like an architectural parasite. The R+2 zoned building contains 22 bedrooms, classified as ERP of the 2nd group, 5th category of type O with daily activities of type U.

The PACA Regional Health Agency (ARS) gave permission to the Groupe SOS Solidarité to open additional beds to meet the long-term housing needs of people with medical issues but do not require hospitalization. The LAM represents the response to the request for an extension to the LHSS.

The new LAM building is positioned as an extension to the existing LHSS building. They are linked via an R+1 walkway. The space used to implant the new building is situated between the original bastide and the LHSS, and was developed with R+2 with a large portion on stilts in order to provide the number of parking spaces necessary for the operation of the site. The walkway connecting the LHSS and the LAM provides the mutual use requested by the ARS. The LAM building is conceived with mixed materials, with concrete for the ground floor, the stilts, and the block with the stairs and elevator; metal structure for the R+1 and R+2. The original bastide, the first extension, and the new extension constitute a triptyque, built at three different times, each with different materials.
