PUBLIC FACILITIES
TRASH COLLECTION CENTER
Program: Modernization and extension of the trash and recycling site of St Barthelemy
Mission: Representative of the project management group— complete mission—winner of the public service delegation competition
Project director: Groupe TIRU OUANALAO ENVIRONNEMENT
Location: Public, St Barthelemy
Status: Delivered in 2017
Budget: 12 000 000 €
Surface: 11 494 m2

This project consists of the modernization and extension of the trash and recycling center of St Barthelemy, as part of a public service delegation contract with the TIRU group, represented by its local affiliate OUANALAO ENVIRONNEMENT. One of the principal characteristics of this site is its location, which can be seen when entering the island by plane or by boat, and which sits along the main road into the town of Gustavia. The site was once a salt pond in a beautiful natural setting, which later became the trash collection center for the island. Due to the population explosion in St Barthelemy, the site no longer meets the island’s needs in terms of sanitation or efficiency. In this sense, the improvements developed by the project management group and TIRU will respond to the needs of the island in the years to come, with equipment installed that can evolve as the island continues to develop. The project has revisited the internal operation of the site, as well as considered the surrounding area, access, and traffic problems. A major public-interest project, with an eye toward more independence and autonomy, as the first step toward a more ecological island.
