HOUSING GAL
Program: 2 private houses
Mission: General design + VISA
Location: Anse des Cayes, St Barthelemy
Status: Building site in progress – delivery late 2022
Budget: 2M€
Size: 176,79m2

Located in Anse de Lézards, this project sits at the foot of a massive rock formation.

The project comprises two single-family homes implanted one above the other, with several levels following the natural slope of the land, which is rather steep. Inspired by traditional island cottages, the project embraces the values of a local lifestyle. Each of the two houses is designed with double orientation to take advantage of natural ventilation. The views and perspectives are oriented to include private gardens behind each house on the uphill side, and terraces with unobstructed views of the sea on the downhill side. In addition to the multi-level architecture, the use of omnipresent vegetation helps provide privacy, as well as add shade and coolness to the project by creating microclimates.

Finally, the project was conceived in a way to provide protection from direct rays of the sun, (pergolas, roof overhangs, vegetation, insulation, etc…) in order to improve the natural comfort of the building and reduce its energy usage. A residential project on a human scale.
